Maxwell Empire Scripted Book 4 Chapter 3

KEVIN AND JULIE AND CHICKEN FOOD

Julie and Kevin are talking about the crops grown on Maxwell 01 by the robots that are terraforming the planet.

KEVIN

The robots will have been growing wheat.

JULIE

Yes, chickens no doubt like wheat. But a bit boring if that is the only chicken food.

KEVIN

Well, on that list of plants what else will the chickens like?

JULIE

This website says they need a varied diet that includes grain, greens and protein.

KEVIN

Well, they have the grain.

JULIE

The greens will no doubt be on that list. What greens do they like that the robots have grown?

KEVIN

Broccoli is on the list. We like broccoli but chickens love all of it. And then there is cucumbers, chopped up I guess, but they could peck their way through it.

JULIE

It turns out feeding chickens just wheat is definitely a no no. Just as well the robots are busy in the garden.

KEVIN

Pumpkin is another one good for chickens and they have grown it. All of it. The seeds are a good source of protein.

JULIE

Here on Earth chickens can get protein from grubs and other such things they scratch up. I can’t imagine the robots producing grubs just for the chickens.

KEVIN

I can’t either, but they have grown nasturtiums. I thought they were just for the babies to nibble on when they get older, and to look at, but chickens like them. Not much protein there though.

JULIE

Seeds, they need seeds. Lots of protein in seeds. What else have they grown that is full of seeds?

KEVIN

Here you go. Sunflowers. Chock a block full of protein. And the babies will love looking at the flowers.

JULIE

I had better give up. The planners from a thousand years ago knew what the chickens would need and told the robots what to grow.

KEVIN

The planning for terraforming a planet definitely took many years. They had to think of everything.

JULIE

Yes, you can’t tell a robot four light years away ‘Sorry, I forgot…’. It needs to know everything when it leaves.

KEVIN

The Science Museum no doubt has a complete record of what the robots were told.

JULIE

We could go there next. Going to the Natural History Museum the other day was really good. We should have been before.

KEVIN

Yes, Birmingham has so many of the places moved from London that we just have to go down the road for any number of great places to visit.

JULIE

Well, the Science Museum is on our next visit list. I guess Westminster Abbey will be on the list soon.

KEVIN

One thing about having workers that work twenty four hours a day every day and there are thousands of them it does not take long to do anything.

JULIE

Humans do feel a bit left out sometimes. This human anyway.

KEVIN

The job used to be the human. We have lost our identity if we are still missing our job.

JULIE

People who have a job like it. If they didn’t like it they would join the rest of us just enjoying a life of leisure.

KEVIN

I really do enjoy my life of leisure. Working at something that was only necessary for making money would not be as enjoyable as doing what you want when you want.

JULIE

And getting paid for it. And if we want to visit the Moon or Space City again we just need to put our names on the list and hope most people prefer to have themselves in an environment more stable.

KEVIN

For sure. The forty sixth century is the best time for humans.
